The problem is I only have one Rockstar account and that was the one with the account where someone changed the nickname! Surely, the Rockstar Games Launcher doesn't just recognise played games by the person's nickname? Surely, the email address is also valid because I cannot sign into the Rockstar account with my nickname, only my email address? Tried to launch RDR2 from the game executable but I am told that the Rockstar Social Club account does not own this game and that it was last played by my original nickname and to sign into that account. Account shows that it was created today despite the fact that I have been using Rockstar Game Launcher for years since before RDR2 came out back in 2019, in fact. Tried to change my nickname back to the original one but was told it was already used so changed it to something else. When, I have no idea, because I set Rockstar Games Launcher to boot with Windows but close it after a few minutes and haven't actually played RDR2 since I got my 4080 a few months back and tested the game with it. Noticed that my nickname had changed to with 'funny' added to the start and an '8' at the end. So I requested a password reset and finally got into my account. Rockstar Game Launcher would not sign in and would not accept my password. Couldn't do anything then so I had to wait until I got home to check further. The one I could read asked me to verify my email address (which I obviously did NOT do). Got 2x emails this afternoon, while at work, thanking me for creating a new account: one was in English and the other in what looks like Chinese. Seemingly copping that some of these are indeed the fault of the launcher, Rockstar released a new update to take care of some of the most common. This created some confusion at launch, as many didn't know if the problems they're running into are caused by the launcher, or the game itself.
